BLUE TONGUE UPDATE VECTOR FREE PERIOD COMMENCED ON 21st DECEMBER 2007 - Which now allows for the movement of cattle and sheep from Holdings within the Blue Tongue Restricted areas to Holdings outside these zones provided they have passed either a "P.C.R." (not before 14 days after 21st December i.e. 4th January 2008) or an "ELISA" test (not before 28 days after 21st December 2007 i.e. 18th January 2008) with negative results. This means the Vendors within the Zone can now enter their stock at Beeston and benefit from selling them to a national audience. We therefore urge all our clients to take advantage of this situation whilst you can. The financial benefits of selling all classes of dairy and store cattle and quality calves, in particular in a clean market are substantial. So far as Cull Cows are concerned, we are approaching the grazing season and believe there will be further financial benefit, created by increased competition from our many buyers. According to DEFRA Website it takes four working days to obtain results and the cost is £15.00 for the P.C.R. test and £2.95 for the ELISA test. Vets farm visit fees will be on top of this. All Vendors should check the DEFRA Website for movement documentation required. You will need to complete a DECLARATION 1 Form and have an EXD472(BT)(E) Licence to accompany all tested stock which must be available upon entry to the Market premises.
